The Art and Practice of Renewal: The Mindful Leader 4

As we move into the second half of this term, and as Covid starts to become endemic and something we live with, the signs of spring are beginning to emerge. This month I invite you to turn toward the return of the snowdrops, buds on the trees and the warmer air and to practice the art of renewal for yourselves also.

Boyatsiz and McKee, in their book ‘Resonant Leadership’ tell us why this is important particularly after such a long period when it has felt like ‘forever winter’.

‘We need more than rest and relaxation. We need renewal in order to sustain ourselves. Reversing the slide into dissonance, and keeping ourselves energised as a leader are possible only through practicing renewal.

As teachers and school leaders, the best way we can look after ourselves and each other is to make renewal a way of life. This requires conscious and intentional action.
