Gangs and Schools: Interim Report

NASUWT, the largest UK-wide teachers’ union, has published the interim findings of its Gangs and Schools report, ahead of the publication of the full report in September 2008. The report suggests that there is no widespread problem of gang-related activity in schools but where it exists it is of significant concern. The report suggests that peer mentoring schemes involving vetted ex-gang members should do more work with young people about the reality of life in a gang and the negative consequences of gang culture.
