Whole Class Ensemble Teaching Research Report

This research by Birmingham City University reveals that almost 460,000 school children learnt how to play a musical instrument for the first-time last year, following a recent boost in government funding. Leadership Briefing 12.05 (137)

The research highlights an issue with converting musical opportunities into longer-term musical learning – something the sector will need to monitor and act upon in the coming years. The researchers also found that the majority of musical learning takes place in Key Stage 2 of primary school and Key Stage 3 of secondary school.
