Bringing The World To Life Through Augmented Reality

There’s no doubt that Augmented Reality (AR) is a powerful teaching and learning tool. But how easy is it for schools to use? And does it enhance the curriculum? Simon Pile, Headteacher at Anson Primary School in Cricklewood, shares his experience.
Virtual school trips

My school is situated in the Borough of Brent - a vibrant and diverse part of North London. A short tube or bus ride from the heart of the capital, you’d imagine that my students see London’s landmarks every day. But despite living just a few miles away, the opposite is true.

I realised this during a school trip several years ago, when one of our students remarked, “I didn’t know London could look like this.” I knew in that moment that we needed to work harder to broaden their horizons: to help them to build aspirations beyond Cricklewood.

It was not long after this that we started experimenting with Immersive Learning – and in particular Augmented Reality (AR). Today it’s one of our go-to technologies and we use it to bring learning to life right across the curriculum.

Here are a few insights from our AR learning journey.
