Removing Barriers to Literacy

Delays in young children's ability to speak and listen properly are leaving them struggling to learn to read and write. This Ofsted report looked at the factors that stop children from gaining good reading and writing skills. It concludes that systematic phonics is vital in tackling the issue, but also suggests that barriers in children's communication skills needed to be overcome as well. The aim of the report was to illustrate effective approaches that might help others to improve their practice in literacy. Leadership Briefing 5.08(56)
