Summer schools without a clear academic focus do not usually show evidence of impact on academic outcomes. NFER evaluated the first year of the national summer school’s programme, which was funded by the Department for Education (DfE). The main purpose was to help disadvantaged pupils to make a successful transition from primary to secondary school.
