Raising Young People’s Aspirations Towards Higher Education

This report presents the findings from research undertaken by the Ipsos MORI Social Research Unit on behalf of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS). The aim of the study has been to examine the role and impact of education practitioners on the higher education aspirations of young people and, specifically, the range of attitudes, knowledge and practices currently exercised in a cross-section of English schools and sixth form colleges that have low progression rates into post-16 education and training, with a view to identifying the key factors of influence, and potential approaches for addressing these.
