A major priority of the New Labour Government has been to turn around primary school achievement.  In this article Anastasia de Waal argues that the trouble is that politics have got in the way. In the Government’s desire to demonstrate just how much and just how fast progress is happening, she claims that improvement itself has been seriously hampered.
