Effective Ways of Teaching Complex Expression in Writing

A key outcome of literacy teaching at secondary school is that pupils should be able to express themselves accurately in writing, and develop their ability to articulate increasingly complex ideas with clarity and confidence. The purpose of this report is to review the available evidence on the teaching of complex expression and develop an understanding of the ways in which teachers can best support the development of pupils' powers of articulation in writing and punctuation.
