Editor’s Comment – Bringing communities to life

With whom does the responsibility of community lie? The obvious answer is with communities themselves, but we all know that this doesn’t work out in reality. We all know that there is an unequal share of social and financial capital and that some groups of people will be able to mobilise more effectively than others and this kind of idealistic belief in voluntary localism provides an excuse for governments to do nothing. That’s exactly what went wrong with the Big Society.
