All Party Parliamentary Group For Children Inquiry Into ‘Children And The Police’

Over the past five years, 1,136 children under 10 years were stopped and searched by police in England and Wales. In most instances, the proportion of stop and searches on under-10s equated to less than 1 per cent of the total number of stop and searches of under-18s carried out across 22 police forces. This report by All Party Parliamentary Group for Children (APPGC) looks at why some forces are carrying out more stops on children under the age of ten than other forces. There are also clear safeguarding issues that need to be taken into account if a young child is being stopped and searched. Leadership Briefing Issue 8.12(96)
