Building on the success of Listen Up! Book 1, Listen Up! Book 2 uses a similar approach but also incorporates useful material for covering Citizenship and PSHE issues. There are plenty of stimuli for debate and creative writing.

Listening skills development ties in very well with the whole area of ‘thinking skills’ and the scenarios in this book provide excellent opportunities for pupils to:

This book contains activities that provide practice specifically in listening and encourages pupils to think about what they hear.

There are 21 listening activities altogether; the first five sequences have been recorded onto CD and are performed by professional actors with music and sound effects to enrich the listening activity. The five scripted activities are:

  1. The New Student
  2. The Oil Spill
  3. The Garden
  4. The World Foods Factory
  5. The Bullies

The longer recorded scenarios can be used as a basis for a complete lesson, or to ‘set the scene’ for a homework activity. The sixteen shorter, less complex tasks each have a photocopiable sheet for pupil use and a script for the teacher/support assistant to read.
