21 Century Schools
21 Century Schools magazine looks at how schools are attempting to improve their environments for learning. Using exciting case studies of new and refurbished schools it looks at the most creative attempts to match design with new developments in teaching and learning.
There is a strong emphasis on managing the Building Schools for the Future programme. The magazine offers critical advice on topics, such as which designs work best for learning, buying products and materials, as well as legal and technical advice.
21 Century Schools is recognized as the publication of choice by RIBA Education Forum and the British Council for School Environments.

Biography

Valerie Bragg is the Consultant Editor of 21 Century Schools.
After a successful career as a science teacher and headteacher, Valerie became Principal of the first ever City Technology College in Kingshurst, Birmingham in 1988. She was Midlands Business Woman of the Year in 2000. As Joint Chief Executive of 3Es Enterprises in 2002, she delivered the first all-through Business Academy in Bexley. She is currently project managing new schools, the latest two of which, Academies in Slough and Bristol, open in 2008. She is the main driving force behind the design and educational philosophy of all these schools.
Valerie was a member of Prince Philip’s Think Tank on national and international issues from 1990 to 2004 and is now an advisor to the Prime Minister’s office on regeneration of schools, a Specialist Adviser to the House of Commons Select Committee on Education and Skills, an OfSTED Inspector and Chair of RIBA Design Quality Forum for Schools.
Valerie is passionate about best practice in education; the opportunities for innovation in design and the crucial importance of leadership.
